An adventurous first quarter
The year 2025 got off to a strong start with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. This sequel plunges us back into 15th-century Bohemia more realistically than ever, with an immersive narrative to delight fans of history and demanding RPGs.
Ubisoft fans were finally able to discover Assassin's Creed Shadows, which transports the famous brotherhood to feudal Japan, a setting long called for. Gameplay alternates between the brutal action of a samurai and the subtle infiltration of a shinobi.
For a dose of nostalgia for fans of Japanese role-playing games, there was the arrival of the remaster of SuikodenI & II, or the adaptation Bleach: Rebirth of Souls for fans of the anime.
An explosive spring and the return of the giants
The second quarter left no respite for gamers. Studio Sandfall Interactive introduced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG with art direction inspired by the Belle Époque.
The walls then shook with DOOM: The Dark Ages. A new opus blending the series' usual brutality with a dark medieval universe, introducing saw-shields and even dragons.
To kick off the summer, Hideo Kojima returned with the enigmatic Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and a new, out-of-the-ordinary narrative experience on PS5.
Switch 2 and end-of-year blockbusters
With the release of Nintendo's Switch 2 console, Mario Kart World was a big hit, while Donkey Kong Bananza provided a nice surprise to accompany the launch and enhanced graphics. Will the same be true of Kirby Air Riders?
Midsummer and autumn continued with a variety of titles, including the action-RPG Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and a return to the origins of the mafia with Mafia: The Old Country.
