Great Wall is marketing an impressive 230 W ATX power supply whose PCB features a coating designed to resist insects, moisture, and dust.
At a time when 750- or 850-watt power supplies have become commonplace in the world of PC gaming, a model rated at just 230 watts may seem outdated. However, this size remains relevant for certain desktop computers, industrial systems, and point-of-sale terminals. In such machines, configurations prioritize power consumption and energy efficiency—for example, with very low-power processors. These are processors without a dedicated graphics card, where the integrated GPU from AMD or Intel is more than sufficient. Under such circumstances, it’s clear that the power supply’s wattage doesn’t need to be sky-high.
The Chinese brand Great Wall has recently introduced a low-power ATX power supply designed specifically for systems consuming around a few dozen watts. The unique feature of this 230 W model, however, lies less in its power output than in the protection of its electronics. The manufacturer applies a coating to the printed circuit board that is advertised as resistant to insects, moisture, and dust. This feature can be particularly useful in environments that are less clean than a home—such as production facilities, large warehouses, or business premises that may not be as well-maintained. The power supply also includes several standard protections against power surges, overloads, and short circuits.
Priced at around $22 and backed by a three-year warranty, this power supply also stands out for its fixed cables, at a time when modular units are becoming increasingly common. Great Wall also claims it can operate at altitudes of up to 5,000 meters—just in case you ever feel like setting up a system in the Alps. While its 230 W output obviously rules out the installation of a modern, power-hungry graphics card, this model serves as a reminder that low-wattage ATX power supplies still have a place in certain specialized machines.
