- To say it's the most eagerly awaited video game of the moment would be an understatement... but we'll have to be patient for a few more months.
As usual, publisher Rockstar Games is not looking to shake things up. After years of speculation and rumors, many doubted the company's ability to deliver on its commitments when it made development of the game official. Yet Rockstar Games was cautious. In 2022, it spoke only of "the next title in the Grand Theft Auto series", and it wasn't until November 2023 that communication really began. In December, the first trailer was released, but no release window was yet mentioned. By February 2024, Take-Two Interactive - parent company of Rockstar Games - was still taking the gloves off, stating that the studio was striving for " perfection " and that, as a result, Grand Theft Auto VI would only be released when it was " creatively beyond reproach ".
Surprisingly, however, only a month later, the same Take-Two Interactive announced a much more precise window on the occasion of the publication of its financial results. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for " autumn 2025 ".
Alas, what had to happen happened. The masterminds at Take-Two Interactive would do well to turn their tongues seven times over: Rockstar Games announced a few days ago that it would not be able to meet this commitment. On X.com, the studio explains, " we're very sorry that it's going to be later than planned " before adding, " we need this extra time to deliver the level of quality you expect ". Fortunately, beyond this - expected - bad news, Rockstar Games has a very interesting piece of information to communicate: it feels confident enough to announce - and not its parent company this time - a very precise release date. If all goes well, this sixth opus will be released on May 26, 2026, and the studio adds that it should communicate " additional information shortly ". Perhaps to specify the platforms involved and the price planned for this event game?
