Microsoft is planning a new Windows and Surface event focused on on-device AI

Microsoft is set to hold an event on October 7 to present its vision for the future of Windows and Surface PCs. On-device AI is expected to play a central role in the presentation.

Microsoft is set to return to the spotlight with an event dedicated to Windows and Surface devices. Scheduled for October 7 in San Francisco, the event will allow the company to detail its vision for “the next phase of the PC,” with a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence running directly on the devices themselves. This shift marks a new phase in Microsoft’s strategy for AI-powered PCs. After heavily promoting Copilot+ PCs and Arm processors in recent years, the company is now expected to demonstrate concretely how on-device AI capabilities can transform the everyday use of a computer. Processing directly on the device is intended, in particular, to reduce dependence on cloud services.

The announced presence of Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, also offers a clue as to the expected announcements. The Surface Laptop Ultra is likely to be the talk of the town, and we’re expecting pricing details as well as a launch date. The simultaneous presence of executives from Microsoft and NVIDIA further reinforces the idea that the event will highlight hardware performance and on-device AI.

The October 7 event will be closely watched, as it will be Microsoft’s first major Windows event since May 2024.
