After more than four years in version 2, CPU-Z is evolving. With version 3.01, the PC world’s go-to tool introduces a new validation system, more than 100 diagnostic tests, and brand-new features designed for overclockers.

Well known among hardware enthusiasts for its ability to accurately identify processors, motherboards, and RAM, CPU-Z is evolving with version 3.01. CPUID is introducing Validator V3, a completely redesigned validation platform that goes beyond simply listing a system’s components. In less than ten seconds, the software can now perform over a hundred checks, including those related to drivers, CPU and SSD temperatures, potential hardware issues, and certain undesirable configurations and software.

CPUID’s ambitions don’t stop at this initial quick check, however: an Advanced Validation feature is in the works. It will be able to subject the PC to much longer stress tests—ranging from a few minutes to several hours—to detect any errors affecting the CPU, RAM, or GPU. The other major new feature is aimed at overclockers. CPU-Z 3.01 introduces a completely redesigned XOC mode, designed to better account for the behavior of modern processors. Unlike the old validation method, which could encounter difficulties with frequencies that fluctuate very rapidly, Validator V3 now distinguishes between the input frequency and the actual frequency. If the actual frequency is lower than the reported value, it can serve as the reference for validation. This change is particularly relevant at a time when dynamic performance management mechanisms make CPU frequencies much less static than before.

CPUID is also preparing a more ambitious update to its tool. Eventually, CPU-Z is expected to expand its benchmarking capabilities beyond just the processor, with measurements dedicated to the GPU, memory, and storage. A real-time monitoring system based on HWMonitor (from the same publisher) will also display temperatures, frequencies, and fan speeds. CPU-Z could thus gradually become a true control center for diagnosing and monitoring the PC, rather than just a tool for identifying its components. This transition, however, will take place gradually. Validator V3 is still in beta, and the previous V2 system will continue to accept validations until October 20, 2026. At that time, its database will be locked and set to read-only. With this third generation, CPUID is giving its famous utility a new mission: no longer just identifying what’s inside a PC, but also verifying whether it’s actually functioning as it should.
