Long requested by the community, a native GOG Galaxy client for Linux is no longer just a pipe dream.
Linux gamers may have a (new) reason to celebrate. During a conversation with journalists from the GamingOnLinux website, the GOG platform confirmed that a Linux version of its GOG Galaxy launcher is indeed in the works. The company explains that it has hired a dedicated specialist to evaluate the best approach for porting its application to the open-source operating system. While no timeline has been announced yet, GOG assures us that this is now a major focus of development.

Until now, Linux gamers had to rely on third-party solutions such as Heroic Games Launcher, Lutris, or Minigalaxy to access their GOG library. While these tools effectively fulfill their purpose, they do not offer the full range of GOG Galaxy features, including achievement tracking, playtime synchronization, or the ability to consolidate libraries from other major platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store. An official version would therefore bring the Linux experience closer to that offered on Windows.
This announcement comes as Linux continues to gain ground in the video game world, driven in particular by the rise of the Steam Deck and SteamOS. GOG appears to want to support this momentum, while remaining cautious about development timelines. It’s important to remember that to ensure games run smoothly on SteamOS, Valve developed the Proton tool, which translates instructions to make games compatible with Linux. GOG does not have such a tool. Fans of DRM-free games will therefore have to remain patient while GOG finds a solution, but for the first time, the arrival of GOG Galaxy on Linux is no longer just a forum promise: the project is well and truly underway.
