Microsoft finally seems to be moving towards customizing the Windows context menu
Windows 11's contextual menu is set for a major overhaul. For the better.
Just a few days ago, we discussed the issue of interface consistency in Windows 11 and the work of Microsoft's development teams. Today, the publisher's stated objective could not be clearer: to make Windows 11 evolve in such a way that the operating system is no longer weighed down by interface elements from older versions. This upgrade work is underway and could well take many months yet, but above all, it's not limited to the system's "presentation" and interface consistency. As Marcus Ash pointed out on the X.com platform, Microsoft also intends to work on personalization.
This clarification takes the form of a response to a certain Guilherme, who pointed out the overload that can affect the "right-click" contextual menu of Windows 11. This menu had been created to make the Windows 10 menu more functional, so that the main commands would be available at all times to speed up users' daily lives. The problem is that, with so many installations and updates, this menu has become too rich, too long and no longer pleasant to use. What's worse, it's quite tricky to adjust its content, so that its primary objective is now far from being achieved, but Marcus Ash has confirmed that this should no longer be the case.
" Working on making context menus faster, simpler by default, configurable to what you use most. more will be shared on our approach soon " he explained on X.com, which pretty much means: " We're working on making context menus faster, simpler by default and configurable to what you use most. More information on our approach will be available soon ". So, of course, it's regrettable that Marcus Ash isn't more specific, and doesn't give a timetable, for example, but the mere knowledge that Microsoft is finally planning lighter and, above all, "configurable" context menus is already excellent news. Finally.
