NVIDIA takes DLSS to the next level: games at 240 fps!
NVIDIA's DLSS technology will undergo two major evolutions from April onwards.
At the last CES in Las Vegas (January 6 to 9, 2026), rather than announcing new graphics cards and detailing the progress of its collaboration with MediaTek, NVIDIA decided to present the future of its Deep Learning Super Sampling technology, better known by its acronym DLSS. This technology has been making steady progress since its launch seven years ago. Last January, the latest DLSS milestone, version 4.5, was an opportunity to introduce a number of technical innovations, including the progress made by the Super Resolution module, which now benefits from, among other things, improved management of moving objects to reduce ghost trails.
NVIDIA also emphasized what it calls temporal stability and anti-aliasing. That said, effective as they are, these new features may seem almost derisory compared to the promises made with the announcement of Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation 6x. In the latter case, the aim is to further increase the power of Multi Frame Generation (MFG), a technique that uses artificial intelligence to "imagine" the rendering of a game based on the rendering - real and realized by the GPU - of other images. Depending on the level of this MFG, more or fewer images are interposed by the AI between two images rendered by the GPU: 1 image in 2x mode, 2 images in 3x, 3 images in 4x and soon up to 5 images in 6x mode.
For its part, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation (DMFG) introduces a mode that can be described as adaptive. As you can see above, it adapts the MFG mode in use according to current needs and capabilities. So, theoretically, we can alternate between all MFG levels from 2x to 6x, with the aim of guaranteeing optimum animation speed while taking into account the latency induced by this MFG, so that even the most demanding games remain as playable as possible. Well, these two technologies introduced at CES are now just around the corner: the HardwareLUXX website reports that they will be available in April.
