When a video game franchise meets a TV franchise, the result is an original mix... that we didn't necessarily expect.

To coincide with the release of the fifth season of Stranger Things, Netflix is pulling out all the stops with spin-off products. We eat, drink, live and now play Stranger Things too. Indeed, Netflix has teamed up with studio Asobo and its parent company, Microsoft, to design a mini-extension for today's most famous flight simulator, Flight Simulator 2024.

According to Jorg Neumann, project manager at Microsoft, the idea came from the desire to fly over the town of Hawkins, Indiana, scene of the adventures of the trio Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair and Dustin Henderson. This involved recreating the city's most famous structures with at least as much precision as all the other models in the flight simulator. To put things into context, we're talking about the introduction of a " brand-new helicopter service offering visitors an aerial view of the city's iconic land marks", Hawkins Heli-Tours: " the Arcade Palace, the well-known Family Video club, the small residential square with its winding streets, or the always photogenic Lovers Lake, perfect for taking souvenir photos ".

SinceStranger Things isn 't exactly conducive to leisurely strolls, the Flight Simulator 2024 mini-extension had to reflect the torments of Hawkins. Helicopter outings will therefore also be an opportunity to take part in five different missions with very distinct objectives: rescue missions, chases and supply drops are just some of the tasks on offer to players. Jorg Neumann promises " an adrenalin-filled journey ", but remains true to the Flight Simulator 2024 trademark: he refers to " a pursuit of realism, authenticity and accuracy ". Even if it smacks of product placement, the mini-extension is available, free of charge, from the in-game Marketplace. Why not make the most of it?
