The evolutionary capacity of the PC gaming world is largely responsible for its longevity compared to multiple generations of consoles. But still..

One after the other, two video games have just seen their technical recommendations published by their respective developers, Avalanche Software and Luminous Productions. So far, nothing unusual since the first game - Hogwarts Legacy - is scheduled to be released on February 10th on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S while the second one - Forspoken - is even closer to us: its release is set for January 24th, on PC and PlayStation 5. Problem is, if the evolution of technical recommendations on PC is not a surprise, we reach a kind of plateau here.

On Hogwarts Legacy: The Hogwarts Legacy, the minimum system requirements put forward by the studio are almost "ordinary" since it is only a question of an Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 470 graphics card and 16 GB of RAM. That said, such a machine is only intended to run the action/adventure game in 720p and even then at a completely outdated animation speed of 30 frames per second. To go a little higher - just Full HD at 60 fps - you need an Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770 graphics card, while the RAM does not move. Finally, if you want to play in more "2023" conditions (1440p @ 60 fps), you'll need an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card and no less than 32 GB of RAM! Of course, you have to aim even higher to enjoy 4K @ 60 fps, since this time we recommend an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti or an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT. Yes, graphics cards that cost more than 1,100 euros.

So it's more or less the same with Forspoken from Luminous Productions and if the studio is a little less precise than Avalanche Software, we can see that the minimum configuration already starts with an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and, above all, 16 GB of RAM to simply play in 720p at 30 frames per second. Logically, the recommended configuration "hits" significantly harder and this time you have to get an Intel Core i7-8700K processor or an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, but it is especially the graphics part that is already flying. We are talking about an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. In addition, 24 GB is required here and this monster configuration only allows you to play in 1440p at 30 frames per second if we believe the studio. Finally, to enjoy 4K at 60 fps, you obviously need a "war machine": Intel Core i7-12700 / AMD Ryzen 5 5800X processor, AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card and 32 GB of RAM. Remember that Forspoken is also due to be released on PlayStation 5: given the configuration required on the PC, we wonder what it will look like on the Sony console.
