AMD is preparing to expand its X3D processor range: is France affected?
The 9000X3D processors will soon welcome a fourth reference, a six-core model.
In the middle of last year, AMD launched its new Zen 5 CPU architecture with a wide range of Ryzen 9000 chips. However, as had been the case two years earlier with the first Zen 4 processors, there was no question of launching chips featuring the famous X3D technology. This acronym stands for 3D Vertical Cache, and the important word here is "vertical". This technology aims to significantly increase the amount of cache memory integrated into the processor by stacking the chips. The benefits of this technology are manifold, but mainly visible in video games.
The first Ryzen 9000X3Ds didn't arrive until October 2024 - with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D - and March 2025 - with the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The reason for the delay of almost six months between the release of the Ryzen 9000 and the Ryzen 9000X3D is to avoid too much competition between the different processor ranges. Today, AMD is no longer concerned about competition, and is going all out, even "announcing" the arrival of a fourth Ryzen 9000X3D. A model with "only" six cores, which should significantly reduce its price while retaining the 96 MB of L3 cache. Name? The Ryzen 5 9600X3D.
Why "announcing"? Because it's not exactly a matter of a formal presentation: the information comes from an AMD page devoted to the release notes of the latest drivers for Radeon AI PRO R9700, a graphics card for professional use. With no official presentation, it's not surprising that we don't have all the information and, in particular, that we don't know the price or launch date of this new chip. Another question: will the Ryzen 5 9600X3D be available in France, while its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, has never been officially marketed in France? To be continued...
