The dream of a flexible screen that can be rolled up and unfolded as much as you like could, in the not too distant future, be a reality.
Until now, when we talked about a flexible screen that can be folded, we were thinking more about smartphones. Samsung in particular was among the first manufacturers to bring folding laptops to the market. While the Samsung Fold opens like a book to double the useful screen area, the Samsung Flip uses its "folding" side to close on itself and make itself very small in the bottom of a pocket or bag. However, smartphones should not be the only ones to have such technologies.
In the world of PC monitors, we already know about curved screens, Corsair has just taken the second step by presenting the XENEON FLEX at Gamescom 2022 in Cologne. As its name may suggest to the most English-speaking among you, this monitor is FLEXible. In other words, it can, depending on the case, keep a perfectly flat display or turn into a screen as curved as the tenors of the genre, Corsair then evoking a radius of curvature of 800R.
The magic of the XENEON FLEX lies in the fact that the choice between flat and curved is not definitive, it depends on the needs of the user who only has to manipulate two handles on the sides of the screen to bend the panel and thus curve it or, on the contrary, fold it backwards for a flat panel. Innovative in more ways than one, the technique implemented by Corsair means that you no longer have to choose between these two display modes, as the manufacturer explains: " Users can adjust the screen according to various degrees of curvature to suit their needs in just a few seconds," before adding that the 800R is more suited to " simulation and shooting games.
Alongside this amazing new feature, the XENEON FLEX has everything that makes a good monitor remarkably modern starting with a 45-inch diagonal OLED panel capable of 3440 x 1440 pixel definition. Corsair points out " a GtG response time of 0.03 ms, active/inactive pixel time of 0.01 ms and refresh rate of up to 240 Hz " and completes by confirming dual AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility.
Finally, Corsair is ahead of the critics by explaining that its monitor is " equipped with an advanced burn-in prevention system that works both with the screen on and off [ ...] all backed by a three-year warranty against burn-in and dead pixels ". Only demonstrated at Gamescom, the XENEON FLEX has no release date or price yet, but it shouldn't take too long.
