Xbox Full-Screen Experience extended to all Windows 11 PCs
Microsoft begins to roll out the new interface introduced with the latest ASUS consoles.
A key feature of the launch of the new ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X console, the Xbox Full-Screen Experience interface was finally intended to provide a new interface for machines running Windows 11. To promote it, Microsoft decided to team up with ASUS and take advantage of the release of a portable console where the classic Windows desktop is clearly not the most appropriate thing. But that wasn't all Microsoft had in mind.
A few weeks after the release of the ROG Xbox Ally X, Microsoft revealed its true intentions by rolling out this Xbox Full-Screen Experience interface on a much larger scale. In fact, as The Verge's journalists explain, it's quite simple: all devices running Windows 11 will be affected by this roll-out, from desktops to portable consoles, laptops, mini-PCs and tablets. The Xbox Full-Screen Experience becomes a key component of Windows 11.
Initially, however, this roll-out will be reserved for users of the Windows Insider program, which enables them to test Microsoft's new features through preview versions. Activating the Xbox Full-Screen Experience feature is very simple: simply hover over the task display icon in the taskbar and select the appropriate option. You can also use the Game Bar - a Windows feature that is still struggling to find its audience - or the shortcut Win + F11.
Of course, the Xbox application from the Microsoft Store has to be installed and activated, but after that, everything works instinctively, proving that Microsoft can also design interfaces that can be managed with a joystick - even on a PC - when it puts its mind to it. According to some users, this interface also has the good taste of reducing the system's memory footprint. Practical on machines where RAM is shared between CPU and GPU.
