AMD prepares a new, even less expensive Ryzen Zen 5 processor
One year after the release of the first Ryzen Zen 5 processors, AMD is of course not finished with its latest architecture.
In August 2024, AMD inaugurated the new generation of its Zen 5 micro-architecture processors, giving the American company the opportunity to take the lead against Intel, which was still struggling with its Alder Lake, Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh ranges. Since then, AMD has completed its range, which now comprises 8 processors, from the monster duo Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9950X3D to the more modest Ryzen 5 9600X. There's a persistent rumor that a basic version of the latter (Ryzen 5 9600) will be released soon, in order to bring the price of the Zen 5 range down a little, but we don't have any details on this yet.
No, on the other hand, it's another new chip that has been spotted on Geekbench by the VideoCardz site. A chip still designed around Zen 5 cores and still intended for the AM5 platform, but one that should be even more affordable than this future Ryzen 5 9600. In fact, as it did with the Ryzen 7000, AMD is preparing a Ryzen 5 9500F that takes up the basics of the 9600, but reduces some of the details and divests itself of an essential feature to largely reduce costs. We don't yet have an exact price, but if history repeats itself, we could end up with around 50 euros less than the Ryzen 5 9600X, more or less a third of its price.
In exchange for this significant price reduction, the Ryzen 5 9500F will have to make do with slightly reduced operating frequencies: 5.4 GHz on the Ryzen 5 9600X, 5.2 GHz on the Ryzen 5 9600 and therefore "only" 5 GHz on the Ryzen 5 9500F. On the other hand, the processor will still boast 6 Zen 5/12 cores, 38 MB of combined cache and a TDP of 65 watts. No, the real change can be seen in the chip's name, "9500F". Indeed, at AMD, the letter F is there to signify that the chip does without any integrated graphics solution. A dedicated graphics card is therefore required, but if this was already in your plans, it won't make much difference and will save you a few dozen euros. All that remains now is to find out when this chip will be launched.
