AMD details the specifications of its new Radeon RX 9060 XT
The first truly affordable RDNA 4 card is scheduled for release on June 5.
Just over two months after NVIDIA, AMD launched its new generation of graphics cards. Back then, at the beginning of March, there was no question of offering top-of-the-range cards, but neither did AMD have any truly affordable products, with prices well over 500 euros for both the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the Radeon RX 9070. Fortunately, things are finally changing, and while NVIDIA began marketing the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti a few weeks ago, we've had back-to-back announcements concerning the GeForce RTX 5060 and the Radeon RX 9060 XT. With just 8 GB of video memory, the former is perhaps not the most interesting model at the moment. On the other hand, AMD has announced that its Radeon RX 9060 XT will be available in a 16 GB version in addition to the 8 GB version.
Both Radeon models will be available on June 5, with the 8GB version priced at $299 and the 16GB version at $349. We're still awaiting confirmation of prices in euros, but we can legitimately expect something like 320/330 euros for the former and 370/380 euros for the latter, as we must never forget that prices announced by AMD, Intel or NVIDIA in dollars are always exclusive of tax. On the other hand, it's worth noting that AMD has made no mention whatsoever of the Radeon RX 9060 "at all", which could further lower the entry ticket to the RDNA 4 generation. Perhaps we'll know more in early summer?
Of course, we'll have to wait for the first independent tests of the Radeon RX 9060 XT to find out what it's really worth, but AMD has logically given benchmark enthusiasts a few marbles. First of all, the new card has been compared to the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB. This comparison obviously turns out to be to AMD's advantage, with performance up by around 15% and an average of around 6% on the 40 games tested by AMD. The comparison with a card equipped with only 8 GB may seem biased and, from a strictly technical point of view, it is, especially since the games were configured in 1440p with ultra settings, which is the most demanding in terms of video memory. However, AMD rightly points out that the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB ($349) has a lower recommended retail price than the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB ($379). Now, more than ever, we'll have to see what actually happens in the stores.
