The December update, stamped 2022.44.25.1, of Tesla cars is an opportunity to revisit a promise made by Elon Musk himself.
Remember, last February, Elon Musk is trying to boast about the power of the new infotainment system of Tesla Model S and Model X cars. Based on AMD's Ryzen Embedded APU, the latter was announced as capable of developing a power of 10 TFLOPS. Obviously, this is nothing like the system that was in place on the Tesla Model 3 (based on Intel Atom) and according to Elon Musk, the thing doesn't even have much to envy to a PlayStation 5 game console that Sony announces for 10.28 TFLOPS. To add more weight to his announcement, Elon Musk said that Tesla was working on running Steam games on its new system.
Nearly a year later, the promise has become a reality if we are to believe - no, not Tesla on hand to verify the thing - Tesla's recent Twitter post. Before we talk about video games, though, it's worth noting that the December update for Tesla - version 2022.44.25.1 - focuses on Apple Music integration. Logically, this feature is accessible from the corresponding icon on the Tesla application launcher. To take advantage of it, you have to use your iPhone to scan the QR code displayed, which then allows you to use your Apple ID to be recognized.

The real multimedia novelty of this update is the possibility to play Steam games from the car. Be careful though, as we said earlier, you need to have the brand's new infotainment system to take advantage of it and, therefore, a Tesla Model S or Model X less than two years old. In fact, you need an AMD solution with a Navi 23 GPU and 16 GB of RAM. In addition, Premium connectivity is essential, while " all Steam Deck compatible games " are highlighted.
Of course, it's impossible to know if all the games in the huge Steam catalog are functional, but as you can see in the video, such demanding and popular titles as Counter-Strike Global Offensive, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Forza Horizon 5, Grand Theft Auto V or Red Dead Redemption II seem to work perfectly. It is also interesting to note that the compatibility with wireless controllers allows to operate the solution from any seat in the car. In addition, the Steam Cloud function is perfectly recognized. Now we just have to avoid activating the autonomous driving " just for the time of a last lap on Civilization VI "!
