The game is currently in full development, but no release date has been given yet.
Initiated in 1997, the Grand Theft Auto saga really took off with the third opus, released in 2001. It then became a real phenomenon, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto V being each time the best selling video games of their generation. Released in 2013 on consoles, Grand Theft Auto V was released on PC a year and a half later, but, thanks in part to GTA Online, it continues to be one of the best-selling and most profitable games on the platform seven years later.
In this context, there was little doubt that Rockstar Games had in mind to develop a sixth episode. Month after month, a few clues confirmed, albeit unofficially, that the studio was "quietly" working on the project, but it wasn't until February 4 that the Scotsmen made it official witha quick press release that also gave an update on the future of the franchise as a whole.

Indeed, Grand Theft Auto VI is not the only project of Rockstar Games, which had already promised for a while the return of the fifth opus on the new generation consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It will be released on March 15, more than a year and a half after the release of these consoles. Of course, GTA Online is also concerned by this adaptation, for which Rockstar Games is planning a better image definition (4K) and an animation speed reaching 60 frames per second. In addition, the studio mentions more detailed textures, ray tracing features and a greater display distance. Interestingly enough, saves from PS4 / Xbox One versions will be transferable.
The big part of this announcement by Rockstar Games concerns the next episode. We shouldn't expect a lot of details, but the studio confirms most officially that the project is currently underway: " With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know that many of you have asked us about a new installment for the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we undertake, our goal is always to go significantly beyond what we've already done - and we're pleased to confirm that active development of the next Grand Theft Auto is well underway .
