Microsoft announces the Surface Laptop 4
Microsoft has thus put an end to several weeks of rumors when the new version of its flagship laptop was no longer an open secret.
Launched almost ten years ago, the Surface line was a kind of bet for Microsoft that nobody expected on the laptop segment anymore. History has proven that not only was the Windows publisher right to try the experiment, but also that the new products in the Surface line are now scrutinized by its direct competitors at least as much as by users in search of powerful, comfortable and well thought-out machines.
A few days ago, Microsoft launched a lot of new products, but it's especially the new Surface Laptop 4 that has focused attention. Last range imagined to complete the Surface line-up, the Laptop series gathers the most performing products, but also the most "bulky". However, this is a very relative notion, since once again, Microsoft will offer models with 13.5 or 15 inch diagonal screens. If many configurations are possible from the dedicated page on the Microsoft site, we still retain 10 major variations, 5 in 13.5 inches and 5 others in 15 inches.
The first notable change is that we are no longer limited to Intel processors and Microsoft has integrated AMD-based versions. Thus, in the 13.5-inch version, it is possible to choose between the Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 5 4680U. In any case, it is then a question of opting for 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB of RAM and choosing between 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB SSDs. Logically larger, the 15-inch versions allow you to choose between Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 7 4980U.
Microsoft announces a fairly variable autonomy depending on the configuration and the official figures range from 15 to 19 hours, but let's keep in mind that the manufacturer is often very optimistic at this level. The Surface Laptop 4 integrate some technical innovations such as Bluetooth 5 or Wi-Fi 6, but are still not very generous with connectors: you have to make do with a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, another in USB-A and a 3.5-millimeter audio jack.
Finally, you should know that the Surface Laptop 4 will not be officially available until April 27. For the time being, you can pre-order the beast at prices ranging from 1,129 euros in 13.5 inches with the minimum equipment to 2,699 euros for the best equipped model in 15-inch version.
