Black Friday 2023 is just around the corner! On November 24 at midnight, the most eagerly awaited promotional period of the year begins. But is it really that attractive? Analysis.
Price comparison site Idealo has conducted a study based on the results of Black Friday 2022 to try and predict the discounts to come for the 2023 edition. So what discounts are we likely to find this year?
High-tech products ever more popular
Unsurprisingly, high-tech products were the most sought-after by the French in 2022, with 6 items in the top 10. Fairly interesting reductions were offered in this category, with around -€104 for a computer, -€194 for a TV or -11% for speakers.
Smartphones, on the other hand, were only reduced by an average of €26.
We also noticed that less popular categories were offering bigger discounts. Hybrid cameras were reduced by €183.00, electric bikes by €282.00 and sound bars by an average of €45.00.
16% average discount expected for Black Friday 2023
Between July and September 2023, a 16% gap was noted between the prices displayed and the prices desired by users. For example, games consoles were 18.63% more expensive than expected, while TVs and smartphones were 17.99% and 15.05% more expensive respectively.
However, this gap could well be closed for this year's Black Friday, because according to the data collected for Black Friday 2022, we can anticipate discounts of up to 13% for televisions or 12% for electric bikes.
Black Friday, the big winner for Christmas shopping
Of the 3 most important promotional periods of the year - Singles' Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday - Black Friday has proved to be the most interesting in 2022. These popular days are crucial for retailers, as they are the main time when consumers buy their end-of-year gifts.
An analysis of the 20 most popular categories for Black Friday 2022 revealed that16 reached their lowest price on Black Friday, compared with 7 on Cyber Monday and 3 on Singles' Day.
It should be noted that on Singles' Day and Cyber Monday, some categories had the same prices as on Black Friday.
