Proof that Windows 10 support is still planned for several years, things are moving around the "old system".
Since the official presentation of Windows 11 last June and its official release on October 5, 2021, Microsoft has only had eyes for its new operating system, which must of course eventually replace the aging Windows 10. However, as we have pointed out several times in our columns, the adoption rate of Windows 11 - despite the efforts made by Microsoft - is not really keeping up. Of course, things are moving forward, but Windows 10 is still by far the majority of users, both individuals and businesses.
Microsoft had announced it anyway well before the official release of Windows 11, the support of Windows 10 is not going to stop with a snap of the fingers. This rather slow adoption rate of its successor is also certainly an element to take into account for the American publisher. Nevertheless, as expected, Windows 10 has been benefiting from a new major update for a few days now. Remember that these are semi-annual and that we are now entitled to the version 21H2.
First reserved for members of the Windows Insider program and then deployed gradually following the new method of progressive distribution adopted by Microsoft, the 21H2 is now offered to all users of Windows 10. The download is done most simply from the Windows Update center, but still requires a little more time than for traditional updates. In addition, at reboot, Microsoft asks as usual some questions to best configure the operating system "refreshed".
Despite its status as " November 2021 Update for Windows 10 ", this version does not bring any major changes. As MyWindows explains to us, it is mainly about "support for the WPA3 H2E standard, improvements to Windows Hello for businesses or GPU computing in WSL ". As our colleague points out, the installation of this update is not automatic, but this should be the case in the coming months.
